WELCOME
The Signdance Group
The Signdance Group is an international leader in inclusive, disability‑led performance and the pioneering creator of Signdance Theatre. Our work blends sign language, dance, and music into a distinctive artistic language that has influenced stages across Europe and worldwide.
Led by Deaf, disabled, and diverse artists, we collaborate globally to create innovative work, strengthen accessibility in the arts, and build meaningful cultural connections across borders.
"Hypnotic, poetic, and unruly.
The Signdance Collective represents the ungovernable energy of art itself, railing and raging against tyrannical forces. Beautiful to behold".

A Transnational Structure
Signdance Collective (UK) Founded in 2001, with its directors developing Signdance Theatre since 1986, Signdance Collective builds on an almost 40‑year disability‑led artistic practice that pioneered signdance as a unique performance language. The company has toured internationally for decades, establishing a methodology recognised across Europe, the Caribbean, and the Americas.
Znakovni Ples (Croatia) Established in 2020, Znakovni Ples was created to expand this long-standing practice within the European cultural ecosystem. As a younger organisation, it provides a dynamic EU base for collaboration, creation, residencies, and cross‑border touring.
Together The two companies form The Signdance Group — a transnational, disability‑led structure that connects UK legacy with European growth.
Our Art Form
Signdance Theatre blends sign language, dance, and live music into a distinctive, disability‑led performance language. By integrating sign languages with contemporary choreography, the form brings clarity, emotional depth, and visual precision to the stage.
This approach strengthens connections between Deaf and hearing communities, creating work that is accessible, internationally relevant, and rooted in nearly four decades of artistic innovation.

Review NOTIZEN/THE NEWS
Audience member, Graz, Austria
More and more newspaper scraps fly away, colourful paper snippets swirl through the air. An invisible message floats through the park, through the world, on this September afternoon! >Protest from the mind and love from the heart.“<
„It interests people of all ages.“„You can see from the audience's expressions that the performance is moving; there's no one left who isn't thinking. What messages are in the newspapers, what information do they contain?“
„Sounds painted with an old violin bow on a guitar. Two protagonists beautifully dance to the live music of bass and drums . The Two city sanitation workers, enjoying a coffee break at a nearby stand, watch the scene intently.“
